Acute condition

Rapid onset (like a sudden heart attack), as opposed to long-term condition

Alternative therapy

These therapies generally rely on theories that have little scientific basis, lacking well-controlled, large, randomized trials to demonstrate safety and efficacy; small trials that have reported beneficial effects can be generally explained by the ordinary waxing and waning of the underlying conditions herbal treatments, traditional Chinese medicine, Neuro linguistic programming (NLP) etc.

Blood glucose levels

The concentration of sugar (chiefly glucose-“ true blood sugar”) in the blood. It is expressed as millimoles per litre (mmol/l).

This is partial reimbursement of insured private medical healthcare costs.

Cancer

A class of diseases in which a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood)

Chemotherapy

In its most general sense, is the treatment of a disease by chemicals especially by killing micro-organisms or cancerous cells

Chronic condition

A condition that lasts or is permanent or keeps coming back over a long period of time.

Complementary therapy

Is any healing practice “that does not fall within the realm of conventional medicine”, or “that which has not been shown consistently to be effective.

Conventional medicine

Is the science and art of healing humans. It includes a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness

CT scan (Computerised Tomography)

Is a medical imaging method employing tomography created by computer processing. Digital geometry processing is used to generate a three-dimensional image of the inside of an object from a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation

Diabetes

is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced.

Diagnosis

The process of identifying or determining the nature and cause of a disease or injury.
